When attempting to buy a good anniversary gift for a wife, most men spend the majority of their time and money acquiring the material gift and very little, if any, on the anniversary card. Some men even make the grave mistake of not getting a card at all. What husbands don’t know is that the anniversary card is even more important than the gift.
This concept is very surprising to most men, partly because our brains are wired differently than women, and partly because of the overwhelming commercial advertising that portrays diamonds and jewelry as the perfect romantic gifts for women (even though most of those ads and companies are created and owned by men). There is certainly some truth to those ads. Most women do like diamonds and jewelry, but those are more appropriate for birthdays and Christmas. For romantic holidays, especially an anniversary, what moves women most when receiving a gift is actually the sentimentality and thoughtfulness that was put into the card. Unbeknownst to the average married man, when his wife is receiving her anniversary gift she is actually subconsciously using the card as a measurement to gauge how much he still appreciates her, or at the very least, how much effort he is willing to put in to show it. A generic card with generic words won’t do much to recharge her love meter for the next year.
The secret to giving your wife a good anniversary gift is in putting most of the emphasis on the card and less emphasis on the actual gift. If you want to sweep your wife off her feet, make the card the primary gift and the gift should be something inexpensive and intimate like flowers or a keepsake. To do this, however, you can’t use just any card. A mass produced $2.99 paper card from the grocery store, written by a corporate marketing expert and bought and given to thousands of other wives throughout the country, isn’t very romantic. Instead, I highly suggest having a customized card created for her out of a higher end material, written with your choice of words so you can convey exactly what you want to express to your wife. Your words will resonate more than those of a corporate stranger, and higher end material will impress her much more than standard card paper. Give her this with some roses and you have the perfect anniversary gift.
